WVC seeks host families for middle school Korean students

Wenatchee Valley College is seeking 15 families to host two middle school Korean students each for a home-stay weekend Aug. 3 to Aug. 5.

WVC is hosting an English as a second language (ESL) program on the Wenatchee campus from July 16 to August 11 for 30 sixth to eighth grade students from Naju City, Korea. The students will participate in ESL classes in the morning and a variety of on- and off-campus activities in the afternoon. This is the second year that students from Wenatchee’s sister city will participate in the summer ESL program.

Host families will pick up their two students on Friday, Aug. 3, at 5:30 p.m. and return them to the college campus on Sunday, Aug. 5. At the end of the home-stay weekend, students and their host families will participate in an appreciation dinner at the college cafeteria.

“This is a golden opportunity to enjoy a brief but meaningful cultural exchange with very courteous Korean students,” said Miko Stephens, the WVC International Student Coordinator.

“WVC has been hosting an ESL/cultural program for Shimane Nursing College in Japan for 15 years,” Stephens added, “and our program has been very successful because of the wonderful support from our community.”

Families interested in hosting the Korean students need to fill out an application and return it to Miko Stephens in Van Tassell Center on the Wenatchee campus or mail it to International Student Programs, Wenatchee Valley College, 1300 Fifth Street, Wenatchee, WA 98801.
